An Update from Superintendent Montange

PCS Update JPG

March 19, 2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Thank you for coming into our schools over the last couple of days to get materials for your students.  Our staff went to great lengths to make this happen and I commend their effort and acknowledge the truly amazing and caring staff we have here at Plainwell Community Schools.  For a wide variety of reasons many other districts have chosen not to provide any options for kids and have not really provided a lot of communication. PCS has decided we will do what we feel is right for our families and our community, if we need to adjust as we go we will do so.  Please reach out to your building principal or teacher if needed, we can help provide answers to questions in the packets if you need them. The work provided is meant to support kids and families throughout this difficult time, it is not mandatory but we hope it will help you create a structured day for your student.  We would also encourage families to form Facebook Groups to support each other as needed, this can include answers to school work...don’t struggle with it and don’t keep it a secret, just ask.

If you were not able to pick-up a work packet at your school, copies are available in the vestibule of the Administration Building.  600 School Drive. Packets are by grade level for elementary, MS and HS are a combination of per teacher and grade level. Packets and work are also available online via individual school websites and through Google Classroom for MS and HS students.

There is a lot we still don’t know.  As of this letter we plan to return to school for full operations on April 13th.  We will certainly make-up any activities that we can as appropriate, but not everything can be rescheduled.  When we get additional specific information we will send it out to families using our usual communication methods.

Take care of your families, do the best you can in this difficult time.  The community has a wide variety of resources available to those who need assistance, many of these resources can be accessed by calling 211.  Please take advantage of our School Meal Program that is available for pick-up on Tuesdays and Thursdays at a wide variety of locations. This provides a free breakfast and lunch for anyone 18 and under every day of the week.  At a minimum, please try to structure the day for your kids. Give them chores, exercise, school work, and any other activity that will keep them focused and in a routine. We have sent out a sample schedule that we hope will help you through this.  GO TROJANS!!

Sincerely,

Matthew J. M. Montange
