RETURN TO LEARN PLAN CHANGE

Return to Learn Plan Update Graphic from February 10, 2021

February 10, 2021

Dear Parents & Guardians,

I want to update you on changes to our learning options for students for our upcoming 3rd Trimester.  Starting March 8, students and families who choose to continue in-person learning will be attending school 4 days a week.  Wednesdays will continue as a remote learning day for students.  This change to our Return to Learn Plan was developed in response to Allegan County Health Department’s recommendation to bring students back full time as well as survey results from parents and staff.  Our plan change was a collaborative effort between administrators, teachers, parents, students and our Board of Education.  This plan follows all MDHHS and ACHD recommendations and considerations to maximize safety for in-person instruction.  Full virtual learning will remain an available option for grades K-12 for families that so choose.

As you consider what is best for your family, please be aware of the following information regarding in-person learning:

  • We have made significant efforts to reduce class sizes to emphasize social distancing for our students and staff; be aware that we can NOT guarantee that we will be able to maintain this at all times.  Some student desks may be as close as 3 feet depending on the classroom.  Elementary students will continue to be cohorted whenever possible.

  • Students and staff will be required to complete the COVID screener daily and are expected to stay home if they are experiencing any symptoms OR believe they have possibly been exposed to COVID.

  • Students and staff will be required to wear masks in the buildings and outside when social distancing is not possible.  Masks must meet the ACHD and CDC guidelines and can be provided by the school if needed.

  • The district will continue with strict cleaning and sanitizing of all high touched surfaces.

  • All district staff have been provided access to the COVID vaccines and most will receive their second dose on February 18.

  • The district receives a direct report from ACHD on a bi-weekly basis to determine the level of risk for each facility.  ACHD also provides direct support for contact tracing and positive cases whenever needed.

You can expect to receive a survey later today from your current program or building regarding your choice to select either in-person or virtual learning for our 3rd Trimester.  You will also receive a specific communication from your current building or program that contains more detailed information regarding in-person learning.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together to provide the best possible education for our students in these uncertain times.  My best to you and your families.  GO TROJANS!

Sincerely,

Matthew J.M. Montange
