Letter from Starr Elementary's New Principal

July 29, 2020

Dear Starr Family:

Hello! My name is Mrs. Kari Luckett and I am so excited to be leading Starr Elementary for the 2020-2021 school year.  I am proud to say I am a Plainwell Community Schools resident, with three children in the district.  I started my career in education as a high school science teacher and have spent the last two years as an elementary principal in a nearby district in Allegan County.  I look forward to using my experience in Restorative Justice, Positive Behavior Support, and interventions to better support our Starr students. I can’t wait to see your child(ren) for school this year! We have been working very hard to safely welcome them back.

This year will be a test for all of us. I ask that you are patient and flexible with our staff as this will be new and challenging for us as well.  There will be changes to school policy and procedures that will be necessary to support our efforts in keeping our students and families safe and healthy. I understand how difficult change can be and I will work hard to be available for support during these challenging times. Please know you can always call or email me with any questions or concerns.

The district is working on a FAQ sheet in regards to the hybrid learning plan we will be using to start the school year. For more information in regards to the Virtual Academy visit the following link for FAQ’s, enrollment information and a link for an informational meeting at 7 pm on Thursday, July 30th. https://www.alleganaesa.org/VAAC?fbclid=IwAR1R6IWL0vToyBLux7JpZjMvsFfSxz8lmQBoZoex1Mi1uwtjtOxoaac5Aic

As previously shared we will be collecting supplies before the first day of school this year.  We appreciate any donations from the grade level lists that you are able to contribute! These lists were created by our teachers with items they need or hope to have.  We will be following all EPA approved lists for use of sanitizer and disinfectants. Any items listed are above and beyond what the district provides, for extra cleaning. If your child wants specific supplies, we ask that you keep these at home to support their home learning. We ask that you utilize the open drop off days for the supply drive but if you need an additional time, please contact me at kari.luckett@plainwellschools.org

I know there is so much that is still unknown but I welcome any questions from you. If I don’t know the answer I will work to find the answer for you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out by phone at (269) 225 - 0645 or email at kari.luckett@plainwellschools.org.
