👏 Next stop…STATE FINALS! 👏 The Plainwell Girls Cross Country team secured a place in next week’s MHSAA State Finals with their impressive runner-up finish at the D2 Regionals today. This marks the first time since 2019 that a girls team has qualified for the finals. The Trojans were led by Regional Champion Natalya Hoffman, who completed the Portage West course in 17:49, nearly a minute ahead of her closest competitor. Additionally, Mai Nguyen earned a medal by finishing in 5th place.
The team will head to Michigan International Speedway next Saturday to compete in the State Finals.

This year, Starr Elementary brought back their Halloween Parade! 🎃 The morning buzzed with excitement for the Rock Starrs as they had an outdoor parade for family, friends, and the school community. It was magical seeing all the unique ways the Rock Starrs showed their Halloween style. What a great way to celebrate together before the exciting Halloween weekend arrives!
Everyone enjoyed a fantastic time at 🍁 Starr Elementary's Fall Fest! 🍁 The event featured exciting games, prizes, a petting zoo, auctions, raffles, and endless fun! A heartfelt thank you to the staff and the Starr Parents Association for their hard work in creating such a wonderful experience for our students, families, and community! ⭐️

The PHS Holocaust Literature class recently had the privilege of hearing from Cary Mannaberg, the son of Holocaust survivors and the father of a Plainwell High School graduate. Throughout the trimester, the class has been reading Holocaust literature, but listening to someone whose family experienced this history brought it to life in a way that no book could. Through family photographs and personal anecdotes, Cary illustrated his family’s journey and shared their compelling stories.
Thank you, Cary, for sharing your family's narrative with us, and a special thanks to Ms. Trahan for facilitating these important discussions. Classes like this at PHS offer our students a unique perspective and a deeper understanding of our world’s history.

Starr Elementary welcomed some special guests when members of the 🎶 Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra 🎶 stopped by for a special performance. During their visit, they shared about the various instruments in the symphony and played a selection of songs. The students in the Plainwell High School Auto class enjoyed a hands-on learning experience when the Gun Plain Township Fire Department visited to demonstrate their extrication equipment. With their guidance, the class took apart the car that was used during the Homecoming Week P-Town Beat Down. We want to inform the community about an issue that occurred at the High School this morning. Shortly after school began, an unusual odor was detected in the science wing of the building. Out of an abundance of caution, Michigan Gas mandated an evacuation until the source of the issue can be identified and resolved. All High School students were safely evacuated to the Field House and students began to be released from school at 8:45 AM through parent pick-up, school buses, or their own transportation. It is important to note that no other buildings were impacted by this event.
The High School will keep their students, staff, and families updated later today as more information becomes available.
Last night, Cooper Elementary hosted their annual Monster Mash event. It was a fantastic evening for an outdoor costume party, where families enjoyed trick-or-treating, delicious food trucks, games, and plenty of Halloween fun! A big shoutout and thank you to everyone who organized, planned, and participated in the festivities at the 2026 Monster Mash! 🧡🎃🧡
📣 It was an exciting week for the Freshman and JV Football Teams! 📣 The Freshman team came away with an impressive 22-0 shutout, concluding their season with a 7-1 record - with their only loss by just one point! 👏👏 The JV team also secured a strong victory (56-12) against Otsego last night, finishing their season with an outstanding 6-2 record. It was a great night at Streidl Field with the JV Cheerleaders leading the PLAINWELL PRIDE!

The Girls Swim and Dive team had an exciting end to their dual meet season by beating South Haven tonight 102-84! This win places the team in second place going into the Conference Championship! The night at the Plainwell Field House was truly memorable, with highlights from the meet including: 📣 The team honored their 2027 seniors: Lizzie Milliman, Addy Gillies, Teighlor Nooney, Audra Huberty, Ellah Anderson, and Abby Unser. 📣 Sylar Luckett qualified for State in both the 50 free and 100 free events. 📣 Impressive swims by Landen Loichinger, Emily Skinner, Brecken DeHaan, Annabella McMeekan, Peyton Damick, Teighlor Nooney, Annabell Castaneda, and the entire team. This fall, students in the Foods and Nutrition class at Plainwell High School have been exploring various essential topics, including nutrition labels, kitchen safety, utensils, cooking terminology, and meal budgeting. After grasping these concepts, they applied their knowledge in a practical setting by preparing pancakes, eggs, and breakfast burritos.
The class emphasizes achieving a healthy balance between convenience, nutrition, and cost-effectiveness. The Foods and Nutrition course is one of many at PHS that help students develop or enhance important life skills. Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders!
Last Friday, the newly formed Plainwell delegation of Youth in Government participated in a training conference at KVCC, gaining valuable insights into the inner workings of state government. Through this program, students can explore their interests, including bill writing, mock trials, lobbying, and press activities. The program will culminate in a three-day conference at the Capitol in Lansing later this year, where the PHS Youth in Government students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in various governmental roles. What a great experience for our Trojan students!
The PXC girls cross country team competed at the Wolverine Conference meet at the US131 Motorsports Parkway in Martin yesterday. Coming into the race seeded second after the regular season, the Trojan girls were led by League Champion Nya Hoffman, League Runner-up Mai Nguyen, and All-Conference runner Molly Bruggink to a second place finish in tonight’s meet. Offering HUGE support to the first three runners and helping the Trojans grab the second place finish were Fiona Ryan, Leigha Weldon, Lillian Szatkowski, and Samantha Corbin. Congratulations Trojans!
Nya Hoffman becomes half of the first parent/child Wolverine Conference duo in history. Nya’s father, Nathan Hoffman, was a two time Wolverine Conference champion in the 90’s for Allegan.
