PHS Update - Plainwell High School - Home of the Trojans - August 7, 2024 - Letter from Plainwell High School - PHS Principal Introductory Letter fromMarvin Taylor

August 7, 2024

Dear Members of the Plainwell High School Community,

My name is Marvin Taylor, and I am proud to introduce myself as your new friendly neighborhood high school principal. I am entering my fifteenth year as an educator having previously taught at the elementary and middle school levels, served as an elementary principal/K-12 curriculum director, and just prior to my joining Plainwell Community Schools, served as the superintendent/business manager for a small, rural, northern Michigan school district.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Trojan Family! As of August 5, I have been embracing my duties, working with staff to plan for the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. These next couple of weeks will build to a crescendo with the first day of school being August 26. I am excited to start school and believe that our students will do great things this school year!

Thank you to each individual who has emailed, phoned, or welcomed me personally to Plainwell Community Schools. I have received many warm welcomes; an indicator that my initial impression of the Plainwell community was correct. We are a welcoming community who supports the local school district and education of our students. As I have learned more about the culture at PHS, I have been awed by the incredible programming, clubs, and overall opportunities provided by a caring staff and core of volunteers in an effort to provide a quality education for all of our students.

In the next few weeks, I hope to immerse myself in the Plainwell community and meet the families, volunteers, staff, students, and community members who support PHS. It is my goal to be visible, approachable, and accessible, and in an effort toward the accomplishment of this goal, I am organizing two meet-and-greet events for anyone to come and meet me as your new high school principal. These will be informal “drop-in” style events. Dates are as follows:

  • August 20, 7:00 to 9:00 in the Plainwell High School Performing Arts Center. This will coincide with the All-Season Sports Kick-Off event which will be held at the same place and at the same time.

  • August 29, 7:00 PM at Streidl Field for the first home football game of the season. A meet-and-greet table will be set up at the entrance.

I hope you are able to attend one of these meet and greets, so that I can connect with you and your family! I look forward to the upcoming days and weeks as I gain a deeper understanding of the Plainwell community, and specifically all things Plainwell High School. Thank you for your continued support of our students at PHS. Go Trojans!Yours in Education,

Marvin O. Taylor
