November 19, 2021
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Over the past few weeks our district has experienced a significant increase in positive COVID-19 cases, health department quarantines, and other illnesses resulting in a high rate of staff and student absences. Our positive case numbers so far this year have exceeded our total positive numbers of the 2020-21 school year, with a large percentage hitting late last week and this week. Our current absences exceed 20%+ of our student population.
As a result of this increase in COVID and other illnesses, Plainwell Community Schools will be closed all of next week, November 22-26. This includes all extra curricular activities. This will provide our staff and families a nine-day break, which will allow for additional time to clean our school buildings and a break for students and staff to get healthy. School will resume on Monday, November 29.
If your child is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms listed below please keep them home and get them tested to reduce the risk of any spread or outbreak. Those symptoms include:
- Fever or chills,
- Cough,
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing,
- Fatigue,
- Muscle or body aches,
- Headache,
- New loss of taste or smell,
- Sore throat,
- Congestion or runny nose,
- Nausea or vomiting, or
- Diarrhea
I would continue to ask you to report positive cases to your building administrator or administrative assistants. It is important to have this information to continue to monitor our numbers.
I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving with your family and we feel very thankful for your continued support.
