
Calling all PCS 3rd-5th graders! Have you heard about Battle of the Books? Battle of the Books is a book-based quiz competition for 3rd-5th grade students at Plainwell and surrounding elementary schools. Students read six incredible stories together and then compete in a quiz bowl type competition in February 2024.
Interested in participating this year? Join us for an Informational Meeting to learn more about Battle of the Books on Tuesday, October 24 from 6:30-7:30 PM at Gilkey Elementary’s Media Center. A Zoom link will also be available for those that are unable to attend in person.

Students, staff, PCS families and the community are welcome to join us for the parade to celebrate Homecoming Spirit Week and to cheer on the Trojans prior to their football game against Niles at 7 PM. It was a chilly, but fun day for the Gilkey Elementary 4th and 5th grade students to take their annual bike trip on Monday. Throughout their adventure, they stopped at various places in Plainwell to learn about bicycle safety. A very special thank you to Bob Farris, Plainwell Public Safety, the Gilkey Staff and the many parent volunteers who made this an amazing experience for the Geckos!

IT’S RIVALRY GAME DAY! Join us tonight (10/6) to cheer on the Trojans at their rivalry football game against the Otsego Bulldogs. Game begins at 7 PM at Otsego HS. It is a “Black Out” game, show your support of the Trojans by wearing black (or your favorite Plainwell gear).

The Gilkey Geckos had a night of family fun at their 2023 Color Run! Students, staff and families enjoyed the playground, nature trail, a picnic with a food truck and an awesome color run. Thanks to the students hard work and generous donations, the Color Run fundraiser raised over $13,000 for the Gilkey Parents Club, which will support our students and staff throughout the year. What a fun and successful event for the Geckos! 🦎

This morning, Gilkey Elementary held their September Student and Staff of the Month ceremony. Each month, Gilkey teachers select one student and a staff member who they felt did an outstanding job. In September, the students and staff members who were selected did an awesome job being respectful. Way to go, Geckos!

We are excited to announce that we will be reviving the Plainwell Education Foundation (PEF) and you are invited to join us! The PEF is a non-profit 501c3 organization founded in 1985 to assist PCS in providing excellence in education. The PEF supports all students and staff with teacher grants, student scholarships and other efforts.

The Gilkey Geckos have a new addition to their building - A BOOK VENDING MACHINE! 📚 This morning, they held a special ribbon cutting ceremony to announce the new addition to their students. Two students were selected to be the first to pick a book from the vending machine, congratulations to Rhianna (5th grade) and Avery (3rd grade). Through learning, positive behavior and hard work, students can earn “coins” to purchase a variety of different books that are available for all K-5 grade levels. The vending machine was purchased thanks to the support of many local businesses: Ransom District Library, Parker, HyTech, TruVista, Bennett Family Agency, Cornell Associates & Realtors, and Amy Hamilton from Jaqua Realtors. The Geckos are excited for this awesome addition to Gilkey Elementary!


Registration is open for our Youth Kickers Soccer program for K-5th graders. Program runs from October 28-December 16. Cost is $60 per athlete. On Friday, during the Varsity Football game against Sturgis, the PHS Cheer team held their Junior Cheer Night. Over 75 junior (K-8th grade) cheerleaders participated in cheering during the first quarter of the game. It was so much fun for our younger Trojans and an awesome night filled with Plainwell Pride!
