PLAINWELL SUMMER OUTINGS: Students in grades 3- 8 are invited to join us for a summer of fun while attending Plainwell Summer Outings with weekly adventures from June 22- August 4. There are two exciting programs (Wednesday or Thursday) to choose from with seven fun summer outings each. The cost is $174 per person/per program. ROUSH MEMORIAL: Save the date to join us at a memorial event to honor Mr. Timothy Roush next week on Friday, May 20. The event will begin with a rocket launch (weather dependent - rain date 6/3) at the PHS Track at 2:30 PM. MUSICAL REVUE 2022: Mark your calendar as the Plainwell High School Choirs' Present Musical Revue 2022: A Tribute to Stephen Sondheim on Wednesday, June 1 at 7 PM. BOND CONSTRUCTION: The preschool and first grade students had a lot of fun watching the concrete being poured by Starr Elementary where they are putting in a new chiller as part of the bond construction project. Our continued thanks to our amazing community for voting “yes” on the 2019 bond proposal!

2022-23 SAFE: We are excited to share that registration is now open for the 2022-23 SAFE program. The School Age Fun & Enrichment (SAFE) Program is a self-funded, licensed child care program for K-5 students. Supervised by a caring and attentive staff, SAFE child care provides before and after school care at all three elementary buildings. Some highlights of the program include:
- Before & after school care from 6:30 AM until the start of school & end of school to 6:00 PM
- Flexible drop in care - $4 per hour, only charged when your student attends
- Located inside Cooper, Gilkey & Starr Elementary Schools
- Available on no school days, snow days & half days
- Closed for Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, mid-winter break & spring break
- $25 registration fee

GVSU SUMMER WRITING CAMPS AT PLAINWELL: Does your child love to write? An aspiring author, journalist or poet? The Lake Michigan Writing Project at GVSU is proud to announce Summer Writing Camps for 2022 - https://youtu.be/aYPuVX5A5q8. For one week, your child will have the chance to explore the wonders of writing with some of West Michigan’s finest teachers, right here at Plainwell Community Schools. The writing camp is for students entering grades 4th-7th who are interested in and love writing! Our teachers will inspire creative thinking as the young writers explore various styles and genres of self-expression.
- Dates: June 27-30, 2022
- Time: 8:30 am—12:30 pm
- Location: Starr Elementary Media Center (601 School Drive, Plainwell)
- Cost: $150 per child (snack will be provided). Scholarships are available; please contact GVSU.

WE đź’™ OUR STAFF: Staff appreciation week kicked off today and our elementary students had a great surprise for their teachers and support staff! Many little artists worked together at Cooper, Gilkey and Starr to welcome staff today with sidewalk art! Way to go Koalas, Geckos and Rock Starrs! We look forward to a great week at PCS!
SON DAY: On Saturday, we held our annual Son Day where we had 200 participants. During the event, sons and their chaperones enjoyed an evening at PCS filled with magic and entertainment! The special event included prizes, surprises and giveaways including: Scoop the Balloonatic artist, a photo booth, special gifts and prizes and an amazing magic show by Magician Brian Penny. What a special evening it was for those that attended, from laughs and giggles, to special pictures, balloons and fun, it was a great time for the PCS sons and their dates. A very special thank you to all that participated in making this such a wonderful day! Plainwell Pride!
GECKO SPRING CONCERT: Earlier this week, the 1st and 2nd grade Gilkey Elementary classes performed at their spring concert. From rehearsal to showtime, the students put on a wonderful show. Way to go, Geckos!

PHS CHOIRS COLLAGE 2022: Only one week until Plainwell High School Choir presents "Collage 2022: A Senior Celebration". Join us on Tuesday, May 3 at 7 PM for a free concert at the Plainwell Performing Arts Center featuring music from the PHS Choirs. We look forward to this wonderful concert!
PHS Jazz Night Featuring Stratøs! It was a great morning as the PHS Middle and High School Jazz Bands rehearsed for their upcoming concert featuring Stratøs! Join us this evening (Tuesday, April 26) at 7 PM for Plainwell’s Jazz Night at the Performing Arts Center!
After a few years, we are excited to welcome back the Annual Plainwell Jazz Night which will feature the Middle School and High School Jazz bands PLUS an unbelievable guest artist - Stratøs!
Our guest artist (pictured) is a WMU Grad with a handful of national awards under his belt in Jazz composition and performance! Outside of his many awards and accomplishments, he is a multiple instrumentalist, with experience on all saxophones, clarinet, flute and piano. We are extremely excited to feature him on many tunes that our jazz groups have been working on throughout this school year! This is a concert that you will not want to miss! A $5 dollar donation (if possible) is requested for each person that will be attending the concert. We hope to see you at the event TONIGHT!
