READING MONTH: One of the many ways that Mrs. Stamos and Mr. Manting celebrate during Reading Month is to read to the 5th grade students throughout PCS. Last week they read “I Am One, A Book of Action” to the 5th graders at Starr and Gilkey Elementary Schools. As Principal and Assistant Principal at the Middle School, they enjoyed this time sharing information and answering questions. Next up, they will stop at Cooper Elementary to meet with the 5th grade Koalas!

ROCK STARR FIELD TRIP: Our fifth grade Rock Starrs from Starr Elementary had an awesome field trip yesterday! They enjoyed visiting the Kalamazoo Civic Theater to watch School House Rock, Jr., then took a walk to the Institute of Art and finished the day with a trip to Revel and Roll for bowling. What a fun day for these 5th grade students!

SYMPHONY FIELD TRIP: The Starr Elementary third and fourth grade students had a wonderful field trip to the Kalamazoo Symphony yesterday. They watched a performance and enjoyed learning about the Symphony. What a great experience for these students! 🎶

CAT IN THE HAT: Reading month is underway and our elementary buildings have several activities planned throughout March to encourage reading. Yesterday, several classes celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday by completing some fun Cat in the Hat projects and activities.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS CHAMPS: Congratulations to the 2022 Battle of the Books 📚 Champions - The Magic Pirate Readers - from Cooper Elementary. It was a great day of competition and we are so proud of all of the participants for their hard work and outstanding teamwork today! Congratulations to the winning team - way to go, Koalas!




BATTLE OF THE BOOKS: The 2022 Battle of the Books team competition is only 2 DAYS AWAY on Saturday, February 26! We have some awesome competitors from Starr, Gilkey and Cooper Elementary Schools who are ready to work as a team on Saturday morning to compete to be the 2022 Battle of the Books champions. The teams have worked hard reading and studying seven books over the last few months and are now ready for competition. Wishing all the teams and coaches the best of luck and congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and dedication to preparing for this special day! Plainwell pride!

101 DAY FUN: Students in Mrs. Gonyeau's first grade class at Starr Elementary had fun during the 101st day of school. Mrs. Gonyeau was Cruella de Vil and her students were little dalmatians! The class incorporated 101 day activities in math, reading and writing. They also had a little dalmatian snack and made adorable headbands. It was a great day of learning and fun for these Rock Starr students!

VALENTINE’S FUN: The students in Mrs. Mudget’s Kindergarten class at Starr Elementary had lots of Valentine’s fun yesterday. They had special activities, snacks and treats to celebrate the day. The smiles say it all - it looks it was a great day for these Rock Starrs!

DAUGHTER DAY: On Saturday, we held our annual Daughter Day where we had almost 200 participants. During the event, daughters and their chaperones enjoyed an evening at PCS filled with games, glamour & glitter! The special event included: glitter tattoos, a nickname game, dance lessons, a photo booth, lots of give-aways and formal pictures. The evening also had a few special guests, as Plainwell High School's Competitive Cheer team led group dances on stage and Becky Howrigan documented the special evening with formal pictures. What a special day it was for those that attended, from sweets and treats, to pictures, glitter and fun, it was a great time for the PCS daughters and their dates. A very special thank you to all that participated in making this such a wonderful day! Plainwell Pride!
