The JV and Varsity PHS Girls Basketball teams swept Mattawan last night! The JV won 52-36 with Lili Garcia leading the team with 13 points and Gwen Todd with 10 points. The Varsity Girls won 50-41 with Ellery Troff leading the team in scoring with 15 points and Maya Johnson with 11. Next up, the Trojans will take on Otsego at home on Friday, January 13. The JV tips off at 4:15 PM followed by the Varsity Girls and then Varsity Boys games. Go Trojans!

Congratulations to Gilkey Elementary School's VEX IQ Team "Gearheads" who had an exciting and very successful day yesterday (January 7) at the Grandville Holiday VEX Tournament. The team finished first of 43 teams after eight qualifying rounds and went on to finish in second place in the final round, earning the Teamwork 2nd Place Award. To cap off the day, the Gearheads also earned the Build Award, which recognizes a team's ability to implement an effective and efficient robot design process. Prior to winter break, Gilkey Elementary held their November/December Student and Staff of the Month ceremony. Each month, Gilkey teachers select one student and a staff member who they felt did an outstanding job throughout the month. During the ceremony, the students who were selected were recognized for doing an awesome job being thankful. Way to go, Geckos!

Two high school wrestlers set out for their first ever all girls tournament yesterday. With dominating performances, 100lb Madison Nieuwenhius became the Champ with pinning her way to the finals and tech fall in the finals 23-8 to make a statement for her quest of being Plainwell’s first girl state champion. 110lb Avery Lynch went 3-1 for third place with 6-0, 2-0 and 3-2 wins. Avery also working towards improving to be on the podium! Way to go, Trojans!

Our classrooms at Cooper, Gilkey and Starr had lots of holiday fun prior to leaving for winter holiday break. From gingerbread creations, to sock exchanges, to fun and games, there were lots of smiles and laughs for our elementary students.

Recently, the Plainwell Middle School NJHS had a Penny War and the 6th graders raised the most money. Earlier this week, two students were selected from the winning class to pie Mrs. Noto Cassada and Mr. Rushford. It was a lot of fun, with many laughs by all!

It was an awesome night at the 2022 Shop with a Hero event at Meijer in Plainwell. On Monday, we gave out 130 - $150 gift cards to Meijer at our Shop with a Hero event. What a special time for the PCS students, as well as the 30 local heroes that helped them holiday shop. We are so grateful to our anonymous donor for providing this amazing opportunity for our students every year, it touches the lives of so many. We are also very thankful to local heroes and volunteers for making this such a special event for our Middle School Students. THANK YOU to everyone that made this night so incredibly special!

It was a great way to kick-off the season by participating in a “You’ve Been Elfed” decorating event. Another wall mural masterpiece by PHS 10th grader Sarah Lagenour has been completed at Plainwell Middle School. This mural is an original of her 2020/21 yearbook cover. Sarah’s art skills are absolutely incredible and we are so grateful that she shared her talents for all to enjoy for years to come at PMS. Next up, she will be painting another mural in the 6th grade hallway after break. Trojan Pride!

We wrapped up our holiday performances at the Plainwell Performing Arts Center last night at the 2022 PHS Spectrum Concert. The evening was filled with outstanding performances by the PHS Choir and Band departments. It was a wonderfully festive evening - a special thank you to our students and Directors (Ms. Beauchamp, Mr. Hepinstall and Mr. Rushford) for a phenomenal evening at the PAC!
