This program will build on the previous UMatter initiative at the High School, with the goal of fostering mental health discussions among the Trojans.
Earlier this week, the group held its first meeting, where students brainstormed fantastic ideas to raise awareness about mental health, educate their peers and provide support to one another.

Students in the Automotive Tech 1 classes at Plainwell High School were excited to welcome Staff Sergeant Kody Vanhoff for a special visit. During class, students had the chance to get hands-on experience with a military Humvee. They also learned about opportunities available to them in the National Guard and how these could align with their educational and professional goals. It was an incredible learning experience for the Trojans!

A special day in PHS’ Woodshop! We are filled with gratitude for Jim Willis, who generously donated an entire truckload of furniture-grade hardwood lumber in various species, along with an impressive selection of tools. His contribution included a sharpening system, a bench-top hollow chisel mortising machine, a handheld router and a wide array of clamps—all equipment that will significantly enhance our students’ ability to design, build and learn in their Woodshop classes.
Donations like this do much more than simply stock our shop; they create invaluable opportunities. Thanks to Mr. Willis’ generosity, our students will gain access to high-quality materials and professional-grade tools, elevating both the craftsmanship of their projects and the depth of their learning experience.
We are sincerely appreciative of his support, his service to our country and his ongoing investment in the next generation of skilled tradespeople and makers.

The PHS Multicultural Club had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Bobby Hopewell, President and CEO of Kabundant, a General Partner of Kalamazoo Forward Ventures, and the longest-serving Mayor of the City of Kalamazoo, as a guest speaker for Black History Month. With 40 years of extensive experience in healthcare, leadership, and public service, he captivated the students and held their full attention throughout his talk. Students were inspired by his stories of community service, leadership challenges, and the impact of perseverance. They also enjoyed a delicious soul food lunch that made the experience even more special!
