PLAINWELL EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR! O​n November 6, ​H​eather Damick, ​Plainwell Middle School ​Educator, was honored with the Plainwell Educator of the Year award during the Night of Recognition event organized by the Otsego-Plainwell Area Chamber of Commerce. This event not only acknowledges the exceptional educators in Plainwell and Otsego but also celebrates local businesses and individuals dedicated to enhancing our community.
Mrs. ​D​amick was nominated by the Plainwell administrative team and celebrated this achievement alongside the ​P​CS Superintendent, ​M​atthew Montange and the ​P​MS Principal ​ Ben Manting.
HEATHER DAMICK BIO
Heather Damick has dedicated the past eighteen years to supporting students and educators through a variety of impactful roles in education. For the last twelve years, she has taught middle school science at Plainwell Middle School in Plainwell, Michigan. Throughout her time at Plainwell, Heather has taken on numerous leadership and collaborative roles, including classroom teacher, science department chair, mentor teacher, curriculum developer, and professional development presenter. Additionally, Heather was instrumental in the development and implementation of National Junior Honor Society, where she has been the advisor since its inception.
Outside of the classroom, Heather shared her expertise by presenting at the Michigan Science Teachers Association Conference and she developed a scientific writing course with Edupath, an online professional development platform.
Heather believes that students should be challenged and encourage students to reach their full potential by building strong relationships founded on trust. By creating a supportive environment, she inspires students to take risks and explore new content. Heather's teaching style emphasizes analytical thinking and real-world connections to foster lasting scientific reasoning skills that serve students both in the classroom and in life.
