The 3rd grade students at Gilkey Elementary had so much fun creating gingerbread houses. They were so creative with this holiday project - way to go Geckos! 🎄

We wrapped up our holiday performances at the Plainwell Performing Arts Center at the 2023 PHS Winter Spectrum Musicale Concert. The evening was filled with outstanding performances by the PHS Choir and Band departments. It was a wonderfully festive and special evening, which included a tribute to Ms. Beauchamp who will be leaving PCS after ten years as the High School Choir Director. She took her final bow as the Director at the PAC, which was filled with her past and present students singing together one last time to honor the impact she’s had on their lives. It was an unforgettable evening - special thanks to the students, Ms. Beauchamp, Mr. Hepinstall and Mr. Rushford for another phenomenal evening at the PAC!
Were you unable to attend? Visit the Plainwell Performing Arts Center Facebook page where you will find the full concert featured.

The Starr Elementary first graders from Mrs. Gonyeau’s class teamed up with their Book Buddies from Mrs. Pelc's fifth grade class to make Christmas cards for residents at the Life Care Center in Plainwell. They had a lot of fun working together, all while learning the importance of giving back to our amazing community! 💙

Happy 3rd Birthday to Plainwell High Schools’ therapy dog, Pyp! She has been a great addition at PHS, providing lots of support to the Trojans. 🐾💙🐾

Throughout the district, students brought in donations to support the 2023 Plainwell Volunteer Christmas Project. At Cooper, they celebrated their top donating class, Ms. Wright’s fifth graders, with a donut in party. As a class, they brought in 471 items for the food drive, which was the most in Cooper’s upper elementary. Way to go, Koalas!

As a reminder, we have some important calendar dates to note:
HALF DAY: There is a half day of school tomorrow (Friday, December 22)
WINTER HOLIDAY BREAK: There is no school from December 25-January 5
We wish our students, staff and families a wonderful Winter Holiday Break. Go Trojans!

Last night the PHS Wrestling team traveled to Sturgis where they fell short to Three Rivers 46-30 and bounced back against Sturgis 60-17 to finish the night. Undefeated wrestlers were: Madison Nieuwenhuis, Austin Gyorkos, Ben Lynes, Michael Gonyeau, Marco Vega and Adin Young. Special congratulations goes out to Adin Young for a milestone 100th career varsity win last night. Way to go, Trojans!

This week, PHS LINKS and LINKS II students got together with their matches for a holiday celebration! LINKS is a Peer-to-Peer support program designed to bring students together to support each other throughout the school year. During their holiday celebration they played fun games, ate great holiday snacks (including Mr. Lindstrom’s incredible English Toffee) and enjoyed each other’s company. 🎄

Students in Mrs. Ullrey’s Statistics B class at Plainwell High School chose various candy cane challenges to complete and collect data. Students then analyzed the data using probability distributions and confidence intervals.

We are excited to share the Plainwell Middle School Students of the Week! We are proud of your hard work and dedication. Way to go, Trojans!
Adalina (8th Grade): Adalina is so impressive! She works so hard and is willing to do whatever it takes to complete her work. She tries to encourage others to make good choices as she tries to model responsible behavior.
Lucas (7th Grade): Lucas is a kind, caring, self-reflective 7th grader. He is always ready to help...if his Chromebook is at 10%, he'll lend his charger to a classmate who is at 1%. He jumps in to assist classmates without a thought to his own inconvenience. Lucas is doing very well academically through his own effort. I recently overheard him say, "I wasted a lot of time when we started this essay and I really regret it now." That kind of reflection is the kind that helps a student make important changes in reaching for success. Lucas is a dedicated cook whose "good things" really are good things and we enjoy hearing about his creations. Having Lucas in class is like having another adult in the room...but a really cool adult who is well-liked and trusted by the students. Lucas is a walking PRIDE pass...he never fails to say hello and to wish his teacher a good day as he leaves, he readily admits when he's made a mistake, his determination in completing his work to the best of his ability is present every day. I appreciate all that Lucas does to make our school a safe place for all of us.
Chase (6th Grade): Chase is a wonderful role model for all of his peers. He is a top notch kid. He excels in ELA class and goes above and beyond to learn the material. Chase is always choosing the right decisions and works diligently to get any task completed. He goes out of his way to help his peers to be successful. Sometimes he does this by modeling best behaviors and at other times he gives gentle reminders of the expectations of the classroom. He does not expect anything in return for his positive choices as a student and as a peer. Chase is also a great person to talk to and shows kindness to everyone he meets. Chase will do amazing things in his future and I can't wait to watch it happen!
Throughout the year, we look forward to continuing to share our outstanding Middle School Students of the Week! GO TROJANS!
Special thanks to our Student of the Month sponsors: Fly Inn, Mayor's Joint, Barbed Wire Cafe and Taqueria San Francisco. We greatly appreciate your support of PCS and our students - Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders!

It was an awesome night at the 2023 Shop with a Hero event at Meijer in Plainwell. On Monday, we gave out 125 - $175 gift cards to Meijer at our Shop with a Hero event. What a special time for the PCS students, as well as the local heroes that helped them holiday shop. We are so grateful to our anonymous donor for providing this amazing opportunity for our students every year, it touches the lives of so many. We are also very thankful to the local heroes, volunteers and the amazing gift wrappers for making this such a special event for our Middle School students. THANK YOU to everyone that made this night so incredibly special!

We are excited to share some amazing news from Gilkey Elementary - they are published authors! Yesterday, Mrs. Heath's third grade class at Gilkey Elementary presented their book "Are You a Leader?" at a Publishing Party. Throughout the story, each student shares their advice for future Gilkey Geckos. What an amazing opportunity for these students, we are proud of each of you for being great LEADers! Go Geckos!

The Starr Elementary second grade students in Mrs. VanGoeye's and Mrs. Mielke's classes had a special visitor this week, as former Starr translator, Ms. Veen, stopped by their classrooms. During her visit, Ms. Veen shared about her current experience as a translator in Honduras and presented each student with a letter from one of her students. In return, the Starr students are working on writing their new pen pals a letter this week, so Ms. Veen can deliver them when she returns to Honduras after break. It has been an amazing experience for these second graders to learn about another country and culture.

Who doesn't love a great holiday tradition?! It was great fun at Gilkey, Cooper and Starr Elementary Schools as the Middle and High School Choirs performed for the students at their annual holiday caroling tour throughout the district. This annual caroling event includes a number of holiday classic songs, as well as a few new favorites...including a special appearance from "Olaf". It is always a favorite for all the students and staff involved, the smiles were priceless!

The PHS JV and Varsity Girls Basketball teams were victorious tonight against Schoolcraft! The Varsity team won 45-32 with Alyssa Weldon leading the scoring with 17 points.
Next up, both teams will take on the Vicksburg Bulldogs on Thursday (12/21) at home beginning at 5:45 PM. GO TROJANS!
