SAIL ART & ADVENTURE: The students in the Middle School SAIL program have been busy the last couple of weeks working on a variety of art projects, including:
- Studying music, art and the Fibonacci ratio. The students combined the idea of Fibonacci and music by studying artist Jackson Pollock. They worked on “Action Paintings “ while listening to jazz and watched a video on how Pollock’s works have recently been discovered by scientists that his paintings consistently have the fractal quality of Fibonacci more than any other artist because of the natural movement of the body!
- Next, the students got creative during their study on solar by creating sun sculptures made from paper clay and tissue paper that dried in the sun!
To end their week of SAIL last week, the PMS students took an adventure to Holland Nature Center where they learned about birds of prey! It's been a great summer at SAIL! In Ms. Flynn's class they looked at artwork by Hokasi and "the great wave". They studied hue intensity and how to push and pull the tide using tints and shades in a monochromatic color scheme. Students also made volcano vase's and focused on form and texture and how the sense of touch is heightened when sight is taken away. It's been a great summer in Plainwell's SAIL program!
